How to earn it

  1. Open E*TRADE Premium Savings Account online.
  2. Use the offer code SAVE800 when you apply.
  3. Deposit the amount for the tier you want in new money within 30 days: $20,000 for $400 or $100,000 for $800.
  4. Keep that money in the account for 45 days, the hold period as the bank states it.
  5. Wait for the bank to pay the bonus. Its terms say when it pays once you meet the requirements.

Day counts follow the bank's terms, which say when each period starts.

When the bank pays. E*TRADE pays within 30 days after the 45 day maintenance period ends.

Deposit net new funds within 30 days of opening; the amount sets the tier. From day 31 the average daily balance over 45 days must stay at that tier, and a lower average earns the lower tier.

Existing E*TRADE customers can take the offer. Each customer can be enrolled in one Premium Savings bonus at a time and receive two over a lifetime, and brokerage accounts and IRAs do not qualify.

The 4.25% APY on the offer page is a separate promotional rate, fixed for six months on new accounts, and the standard rate was 3.75% when we checked. The calculator counts 4.25% on the parked cash, the rate that applies during the hold.
